Overview

BIW is hiring a Damage Control Designer at one of the following levels:

  • 1st Class Designer: $32.80/Hr. - $39.33/Hr.
  • 2nd Class Designer: $29.34/Hr. - $31.51/Hr.
  • 3rd Class Designer: $26.75/Hr. - $28.39/Hr.

This position will report to the Damage Control and Selected Records Drawings Supervisor. Will provide support in Damage Control as it pertains to U.S. Naval Ships, covering New Construction as well as the life cycle of commissioned 51 and 1000 Class DDGs.

Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Design of Damage Control Diagrams and Damage Control Books.
  • Troubleshoot and correct inaccuracies in Damage Control information concerning Engineering Operating Sequence System (EOSS), Basic Location Numbering (BLN), fitting functionality and Damage Control Classifications.
  • Perform plotting, lamination support and shipping of DC Diagrams.
  • Support ship checking of Damage Control data to ensure product matches ships as is condition.
  • Utilize BIW functional and class drawings as references to investigate and ensure Damage Control products are accurate.
  • Prepare and check Damage Control Products with markups according to ship alteration drawings.
  • Interact with Navy customers during ship check on all things related to Damage Control.

Responsibilities

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • General familiarity with computers and associated software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance if you do not currently have one. You must be a a U.S. Citizen for consideration, and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire. Qualifications

1st Class Required (Includes 2nd & 3rd Class Requirements):

  • Minimum of seven (7) years marine design or technically related design experience required, OR
  • Bachelors degree in a related technical field (Engineering, Engineering Technology, Marine Design/Engineering, Architecture), with (4) years AutoCAD design experience required.
  • Ability to read/comprehend/interpret class and functional drawings of a Mach/Hull/Electrical nature.
  • High Level Experience in navigating aboard DDGs.
  • Comprehension of how ship systems integrate/operate with each other.
  • Naval Damage Control Experience preferred.
  • Comprehension of Naval Engineering Operating Sequence System Preferred.
  • Comprehension of Naval Basic Location Number System Preferred.
  • Comprehension of Ships Classification System and Ship settings Preferred.

2nd Class Required (Includes 3rd Class Requirements):

  • Minimum of four (4) years design experience, OR
  • Bachelors degree in a related technical field (Engineering, Engineering Technology, Marine Design/Engineering, Architecture), OR
  • Associate/ Vocational School degree with two (2) years design experience, required.
  • 3D CAD or AutoCAD proficiency.
  • Ability to read Machinery/Hull/Electrical Drawings.
  • DDG Shipboard familiarity preferred.
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro experience preferred.

3rd Class Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • General Familiarity with computers and associated software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred.
  • Position may require travel.
