Title: Gas Utility Field Sketch Technician

Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Sketch Technician to support natural gas infrastructure projects by documenting completed construction work and producing accurate as-built records. This position combines fieldwork with drafting responsibilities, requiring travel to active job sites to collect measurements, document installation details, and prepare final sketches that accurately represent completed work. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in the field, and able to communicate effectively with both construction and office personnel.
Primary Responsibilities
Travel to multiple active project sites throughout the workday.
Collect field measurements and document completed utility installations.
Prepare clear and accurate as-built sketches that reflect final construction conditions.
Record field changes, dimensions, depths, and installed components.
Coordinate with field crews and project staff to verify project information.
Maintain organized project documentation and update drawing files as construction progresses.
Produce high-quality drafting deliverables using CAD software such as MicroStation or comparable platforms.
Complete documentation in support of project turnover and closeout activities while meeting established deadlines.
Qualifications
1–3 years of experience in construction documentation, drafting, utility mapping, GIS, utility locating, or a related technical field.
Experience using MicroStation or similar computer-aided drafting software.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and construction plans.
Familiarity with active construction environments and field documentation practices.
Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience
Experience collecting and managing digital field documentation.
Working knowledge of underground utility construction methods and materials.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.
Experience using underground utility locating equipment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to travel between multiple project locations throughout the day.
Ability to perform field measurements in active construction environments.
Comfortable standing, walking, and working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle required. Business mileage and approved travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with company policy.
