Job Title: Design Engineer - ATV/SxS Chassis

Job Description

This role focuses on the design and development of chassis systems for ATV and side-by-side vehicles, contributing to functioning prototypes that evolve into production models. You will research and apply new technologies, ensure global vehicle product quality, and support business targets by owning key components and driving system-level integration across suspension, steering, driveline, wheels/tires, and brake systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the development of complex chassis components and system layouts for ATV/SxS prototype vehicles using computer-aided design (CAD) software, ensuring alignment with concept targets, functional requirements, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Create detailed prototype and production drawings that clearly communicate specification requirements and manufacturing control points, supporting the definition of final specifications for global ATV and SxS new models and mass production vehicles.
  • Maintain accurate technical, development, and administrative documentation, and delegate design tasks appropriately to support project efficiency and quality.
  • Establish cost targets for assigned parts and systems, or lead others in doing so, and achieve these cost targets by optimizing challenging designs and implementing cost reduction ideas and strategies, even when specifications change after targets are fixed.
  • Create and manage schedules for your own work and the work of others to ensure deadlines are met, coordinating resource needs and effectively utilizing contractor resources and groups of associates.
  • Consistently communicate project status, provide technical insight in project meetings and development events, and substitute for the Team Head or Design Technical Expert when needed to maintain smooth daily operations.
  • Set goals for generating advanced concepts and lead the creation of comprehensive strategies that support the evolution and integration of new technologies into vehicle development.
  • Lead the maturation of new technology ideas into development-ready solutions, ensuring they can be applied effectively in future vehicle programs.
  • Support or lead resolution of market quality issues by applying structured problem-solving methods, analyzing root causes, developing and implementing countermeasure specifications (C/M specs), and driving recurrence prevention activities.
  • Mentor other engineers in basic engineering principles, design philosophy, best working practices, and internal policies, providing guidance and leading by example to elevate technical capability across the organization.
  • Own key chassis components and systems, ensuring robust integration with suspension, steering, driveline, wheels/tires, and brake systems, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to align engineering solutions with broader business needs.
  • Translate complex technical topics and project updates into clear, concise summaries for non-technical and business stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making.

Essential Skills

  • 8-12 years of engineering experience in automotive, powersports, heavy equipment, or other wheeled vehicle platforms with suspension systems.
  • Strong hands-on technical design experience with chassis systems, including suspension, steering, driveline, wheels/tires, and brake systems.
  • Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools, with CATIA experience strongly preferred; other CAD tools are acceptable with a strong design background.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop complex components and system layouts that meet functional, performance, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Proven capability to manage and own components and systems from concept through prototype and into production-ready status.
  • Experience setting and achieving cost targets for parts and systems, including applying cost optimization and cost reduction strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, schedule, and manage individual and team workloads to meet project deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information into clear summaries for business stakeholders and cross-functional partners.
  • Experience leading or supporting market quality investigations using structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes and define countermeasures.
  • Leadership ability or clear potential to grow into a lead role, including coordinating resources, guiding others, and representing engineering in cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • background in powersports vehicle development, particularly ATV and SxS platforms, is highly beneficial.
  • Experience with chassis design in environments involving off-road or demanding operating conditions.
  • Prior project leadership experience, including representing engineering in cross-functional reviews and decision-making forums.
  • Experience developing and implementing countermeasure specifications (C/M specs) and driving recurrence prevention for quality issues.
  • Demonstrated mentoring experience, supporting the development of less-experienced engineers in design methods and best practices.
  • Familiarity with global product development processes and maintaining consistent vehicle product quality across markets.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to generate advanced ideas and contribute to technology roadmaps and innovation strategies.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining alignment with broader project and organizational objectives.

Work Environment

You will work in a collaborative engineering environment focused on ATV and side-by-side vehicle development, with a strong emphasis on chassis systems and vehicle dynamics. The role involves extensive use of computer-aided design tools, including CATIA or equivalent CAD software, and regular interaction with cross-functional teams such as manufacturing, quality, and business stakeholders. You can expect a mix of detailed design work, documentation, and participation in project meetings and development events. The environment values technical ownership, clear communication, and proactive leadership, offering opportunities to influence new technologies, support global product quality, and mentor other engineers.
