Design Engineer (Contract)
Location: New Hudson, MI
Work Format: Onsite preferred; hybrid possible based on business needs
Contract Duration: 3–6 months
Compensation: $50–55/hour
Position SummaryWe are seeking a Mid-Level Design Engineer to support vehicle and product system design and development efforts. This contract role will focus on mechanical design, analysis, documentation, and cross-functional support through the product development lifecycle. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong, and comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced engineering environment. Key Responsibilities- Support vehicle and product system design and development activities
- Develop system physics models and support system characterization
- Create CAD concepts, component designs, and packaging solutions
- Apply linear static FEA to support design optimization
- Generate engineering drawings and ensure documentation accuracy
- Support design verification planning and reporting (DVP&R)
- Prepare and present project status updates to stakeholders
- Develop and execute test methods, procedures, and reports
- Support metal structures, sheet metal, and structural systems design
- Prepare technical specifications and engineering documentation
- Support manufacturing and shop builds; respond to ECRs and technical inquiries
- Assist in resolving customer or program issues using engineering and project skills
Required Skills & Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of professional engineering experience
- Proficiency with Creo CAD
- Experience with ANSYS or similar FEA tools
- Experience using Windchill or other PLM systems
- Strong background in drawing creation, detailing, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience designing metal structures and sheet metal components
- Understanding of full-vehicle systems and how subsystems interact
- Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
