    General Summary

    This position is responsible for leading engineering design efforts by independently producing engineering design calculations, plans, drawings, and related deliverables with limited input from Engineering management. The role develops safe, efficient, constructable, and cost-effective design solutions that comply with applicable codes, standards, contract documents, and project requirements while supporting construction execution.

    Essential Job Accountabilities

    Perform, coordinate, and manage design tasks to ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable contracts, specifications, codes, standards, budget, and schedule requirements.

    Interpret contract documents and project requirements to develop engineering designs that support construction means and methods and overall project goals.

    Coordinate closely with operations personnel, project managers, superintendents, estimators, and other stakeholders to ensure engineering solutions are constructable, efficient, and aligned with project schedules and available resources.

    Identify, evaluate, and resolve design conflicts, interferences, constructability issues, and risks to ensure successful project execution.

    Provide technical direction and oversight of engineering calculations, drawings, and design documentation to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with standards.

    Develop and maintain engineering documentation including calculation packages, design reports, drawings, and review records to ensure traceability and professional quality.

    Support and contribute to estimating, planning, and construction activities through development of engineered solutions and work plans.

    Provide mentoring, direction, and tasking of junior engineering staff to support development and ensure project standards are met.

    Assist in managing engineering risks including safety, constructability, quality, and schedule impacts by identifying issues, evaluating alternatives, and communicating with project teams.

    Represent engineering in client, project management, and design coordination meetings to ensure effective communication and alignment of engineering deliverables.

    Education
    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering preferred, or related field, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

    Work Experience
    • 7+ years of relevant structural design, construction engineering, temporary works design, field support, or similar experience in heavy civil construction.

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities
    • Proficiency with MS Office products, structural analysis software, AutoCAD or similar drafting tools, Bluebeam, and engineering design tools.
    • Advanced knowledge of structural engineering principles, temporary works design, construction methods, and applicable codes and standards.
    • Ability to lead design efforts and develop engineering deliverables with limited supervision.
    • Ability to manage multiple design tasks, prioritize work, and coordinate across disciplines.
    • Demonstrated ability to evaluate engineering problems, identify risks, and develop safe, efficient, constructable, and cost-effective design solutions.
    • Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering staff.
