The Project Engineer will lead design-build construction projects for the MTA, overseeing all phases from planning through completion. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with public-sector and transit authority standards. Based in Long Island, New York, this position requires strong experience managing complex infrastructure, transportation, or large-scale construction projects in a design-build environment.

Description
- Support Project Managers in delivering commercial and retail construction projects from start to finish
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and budgeting to ensure timelines and cost targets are met
- Manage and track RFIs, submittals, permits, and project documentation
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project flow
- Review drawings and specifications to ensure alignment with project requirements
- Monitor site progress, quality control, and safety compliance throughout construction
- Support procurement and subcontractor buyout processes
- Assist in tracking project costs, change orders, and financial reporting
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates to internal and external stakeholders
- Help drive project closeout, including punch lists, O&M manuals, and final documentation

Profile
A successful Project Manager should have:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required (active license)
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 3-8+ years of experience in commercial, retail, or mixed-use construction projects
- Strong understanding of project coordination, scheduling, and cost control
- Experience managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Proven ability to work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts
- Strong communication skills - able to coordinate with owners, consultants, and field teams
- Hands-on experience with construction software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.) preferred
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to drive tasks from preconstruction through closeout
