Job Title: Design Assurance Engineer

Annual Salary Range:$113,300 - $183,200

*Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Job Summary

As a Design Assurance Engineer at BPMI, you will interface with BPMI Equipment Departments and experts in many disciplines to influence BPMI design work and to resolve an array of challenging issues with electro-mechanical or mechanical equipment.

Essential Duties:

  • Utilize extensive engineering skills and knowledge to participate in design projects and to support resolution of significant issues with electro-mechanical or mechanical equipment.
  • Lead design reviews.
    • Work with equipment departments to establish design review plans for concept, interim, or final designs. Planning includes developing the scope and objectives for the review, selecting review board members, determining the relevant documentation and information for the review, and establishing a schedule supporting equipment department needs.
    • Lead the equipment department team and review board through the design review process. This includes facilitating the review of comments from the review board and providing your own design review comments as part of the process.
    • Document the results of the design review in a report.
  • Lead technical reviews by following the design review process above to address issues with electro-mechanical or mechanical equipment requirements, manufacturing, shipping, installation, operation, field service, tooling, supply base alternatives, and new technology development.
  • Monitor significant BPMI electro-mechanical and mechanical work and interface with equipment departments as needed to ensure independent design reviews are being performed and determine if design assurance support could be helpful in addressing issues.
  • Participate in design reviews led by interfacing organizations (e.g., equipment suppliers).
  • Support the BPMI dissenting opinion and technical appeal processes.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Nine (9) years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees (e.g., Master's, Ph. D.) may be considered as a partial substitute for required experience, depending on the relevance to the position, but may not fulfill the entire experience requirement.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Ten (10) or more years of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program experience.
  • General understanding of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program equipment.
  • Strong leadership, teaming, and communication skills in support of leading a board of subject matter experts in a design or technical review.
  • General understanding of reactor plant operations.
  • Effective in technical writing.
  • Creative and innovative problem-solving capabilities.
