Job Summary:
Seeking a DER Applications and Technical Support Engineer to support customer projects involving Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Gateways, DER Aggregator, and DER Control products. This role will be responsible for project coordination, application engineering, system configuration, testing, commissioning, and technical support for utility interconnection projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, Project Delivery, and customer teams to ensure successful deployment and operation of DER solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate DER Gateway, DER Controller, and DER Aggregator projects supporting utility interconnection requirements.
  • Perform project engineering, configuration, and deployment of DER Gateways and Controllers.
  • Conduct product testing, validation, and SCADA pre-testing in company labs and customer environments.
  • Provide site commissioning support and utility SCADA testing for PTO (Permission to Operate) and interconnection activities.
  • Deliver application engineering support to customers regarding project requirements and utility compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Project Delivery teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Troubleshoot communication, integration, and commissioning issues during project execution.
Must-Have Skills:
  • 3+ years of experience in Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Renewable Energy, or related industries (recent Electrical Engineering graduates may also be considered).
  • Hands-on engineering and site commissioning experience with Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Experience working with inverters, gateways, energy storage systems, power control systems, or energy management systems.
  • Understanding of utility communications, automation systems, SCADA, RTU, gateways, protection relays, or telecom infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of DER communication protocols including DNP3, SunSpec Modbus, and IEEE 2030.5.
  • Experience with communication interfaces such as RS232, RS485, Ethernet, and Cellular networks.
  • Familiarity with network troubleshooting, Wireshark, and traffic analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with utility automation and interconnection projects.
  • Exposure to IEEE 1547 standards and DER compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of utility SCADA integration and testing processes.
  • Experience with protection relay protocols and utility communication networks.
Education:
  • Associate Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
Industry Experience:
Renewable Energy, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), Solar Energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Utility Automation, Smart Grid, Power Systems, Energy Management Systems (Preferred)
