Position Summary Establishes ongoing contact with caseworkers from Childrens Division - Department of Social Services and Guardians ad Litem to determine compliance with court orders by all parties and provides information to the Juvenile Office Legal Services Division for the development of motions when parties are not in compliance with court orders. Attends abuseneglect hearings and submits disposition recommendations consistent with case plan and time standards.

Participates in family support meetings by contributing to the development and subsequent review of case plans which focus on the safety and expedited permanency of youth. Documents content and progress of family support team meetings. Provides information to parents/guardians about Juvenile Court process and time frames.

Serves as liaison between the Courts legal staff and judicial staff, participates in the preparation of cases by reviewing court reports, by acquiring adult arrest records by obtaining addresses of absent/unknown parent. Meets prospective relative care providers and conducts home visits as appropriate.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, or Social Work, or related field.
  • One year of experience in juvenile justice or social work with juveniles.

Alternative Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in an unrelated field.
  • Four years more professional work experience in juvenile justice or other social work with juveniles.
  • Requires successful completion of a prescribed course of instruction that focuses on the duties/responsibilities of deputy juvenile officers to be completed within the first six months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of juvenile courts and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of Missouri statutes and laws regarding juvenile cases.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and public.
  • Ability to handle potentially escalated situations with a juvenile and family regarding a referral.
