In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:
Effective June 27, 2025 – 4.00% increase

Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

The eligible list established through this recruitment will be used to fill current and future Limited-Term Deputy District Attorney IV positions. A Limited-Term position is a position that has no anticipated long-range funding or has uncertain future funding. This limited-term position is dependent upon grant funding.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) is seeking a Limited-Term Deputy District Attorney IV to serve as a prosecutor assigned to the Consumer/Environmental Protection Unit to review, file, and prosecute complex civil and criminal consumer/environmental protection cases. Assigned cases involve voluminous evidence, complex legal theories and factual scenarios, and high-dollar penalties. They are often high-profile with statewide or even national implications. The cases require a high level of experience, knowledge, and expertise, as well as sound judgement and the ability to exercise discretion within strict legal and ethical guidelines.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
In addition to minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess at least five (5) years as an attorney, with significant experience in criminal procedure, including drafting criminal complaints, indictments, briefs, and motions; and/or civil litigation, including taking and defending depositions, litigating discovery disputes, drafting and arguing motions for summary judgment/summary adjudication, jury trials and bench trials, post-trial motions, and appellate work.
- Analyze, evaluate, organize, file, and litigate complex civil and criminal consumer and environmental protection cases involving voluminous evidence and complex legal theories and factual scenarios.
- Perform legal research and apply the law to craft persuasive legal arguments, understand complex financial records, use a computer effectively, and articulate the People’s position in court both orally and in written legal briefs.
- Work effectively with OCDA staff, members of the Bench and Bar, law enforcement and other investigative agencies, and the public including victims and witnesses.
- Be self-motivated and operate in an independent work environment.
LICENSE REQUIRED
- Active membership in the State Bar of California
or
- Members in good standing of California State Bar and have been assigned a license number but have inactive membership status are also welcome to apply. An active California State Bar membership and eligibility to practice law in the State of California must be attained by date of appointment and maintained throughout employment.

- Possession of a California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation to carry out the essential functions of the job.

RECRUITMENT PROCESSDistrict Attorney Human Resources screens all application materials for minimum and/or desirable qualifications. After the initial screening, candidates who meet the minimum and/or desirable qualifications will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process. The recruitment process will consist of the following assessments, which will require a few months to complete.
Application Appraisal Panel (Weighted 100%)
A panel of job knowledge experts will evaluate the responses to the supplemental questions for job knowledge, competencies, and related experience described above. Each candidate's rating is based on the candidate's responses to the supplemental questions; therefore, candidates should be thorough, detailed, and complete in their responses to the supplemental questions.
Based on the Department's needs, the recruitment process listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the recruitment process.
Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, District Attorney Human Resources will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
