The Deputy Director of Transportation assists in managing the operations of the Department of Transportation, including roadway maintenance, traffic operations, construction, stormwater maintenance and engineering functions. This position provides leadership and technical guidance, assists with budgeting and project management, reviews contracts and plans, manages assigned staff, organizes and assigns work, develops and implements short- and long-term goals/ plans/objectives, develops/ implements policies and procedures, prepares applications and proposals for funding, and responds to citizen and Board concerns.

Qualified candidates should possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with knowledge of public works and transportation operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, public administration, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • Requires approximately 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, public works, engineering, construction, or related operations sufficient to understand and coordinate the functions of multiple departmental divisions, with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer, preferred
