Lee County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB)

Position: Deputy Director

Classification: Exempt

Salary Range: $81,000 - $91,000, commensurate with experience

 

The Lee County Emergency Telephone System Board is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to serve as Deputy Director of 911 Communications. This leadership role assists in overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Communications Center (ECC), ensuring high-quality emergency response services for communities across Lee County.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the ETSB Executive Director, the Deputy Director performs a broad range of technical, administrative, and supervisory responsibilities related to the operation of the ECC. The position plays a key role in staff leadership, operational planning, training, quality assurance, and communications technology management.

The Deputy Director also serves as Acting Director in the absence of the Executive Director and helps guide the ongoing development of emergency communications, service, programs, and systems. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and managing daily ECC operations
  • Lead, mentor, and support communications staff and dispatch teams
  • Assist with employee supervision, evaluations, scheduling, and training
  • Oversee quality assurance and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and certification standards
  • Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, EMS, vendors, contractors, and partner agencies
  • Support the maintenance and implementation of communications equipment and NG9-1-1 systems
  • Assist with budgeting, grant applications, procurement, and operational planning
  • Respond to operational concerns, major incidents, and communications-related issues
  • Participate in task forces, committees, and public education initiatives
  • Serve as Acting Director as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in emergency service communications management or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position
  • Strong knowledge of dispatch operations, CAD systems, radio communications, and E9-1-1 systems
  • Valid Illinois driver's license
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 emergency services environment and respond to emergencies as needed

Preferred

  • Emergency Number Professional (ENP) certification
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, criminal justice, public administration, public safety, or related field

Work Schedule

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. This position may require on-call availability and response during emergencies outside normal business hours.
