Job Duties

The Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court is looking to fill several Deputy Clerk positions in the Customer Support, Financial, Pre-Court, and Post Court Units. Deputy Clerks are assigned a variety of clerical, administrative, and customer service work under the direction of the Unit's Supervising Deputy Clerk and ultimately report to the Clerk of Court.

Deputy clerks play an important and vital role ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with state and local policies while providing courteous and professional customer service in support of the court's mission to provide an independent, accessible, responsive forum for the just resolution of disputes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to entering and updating data into the automated case management system, scanning and filing documents, preparing and processing various legal papers, forms, orders and correspondence, scheduling court hearings, assisting the judge and preparing dockets, assessing and receipting fines and costs, providing customer service support in-person, over the telephone, and by email to the public, attorneys, and other court users, and fulfilling other duties as required to ensure that court instructions are executed and prepared with accuracy and in accordance with appropriate policies, judicial instructions, and/ or statutory regulations.

Most competitive applicants will have some court or office experience or a degree in a legal related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an office and courtroom setting. Duties require the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and operate standard office equipment. The employee may be required to lift or carry items weighing up to approximately 10 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
