About the Opportunity
Tanager Bank is seeking an experienced Deposit Operations Specialist to join our Deposit Operations team. This role is ideal for a banking professional with experience in bank operations, ACH processing, electronic payments, EFT, wire transfers, account maintenance, debit card operations, reconciliations, fraud prevention, and back-office banking.
You'll help ensure the accuracy and efficiency of daily deposit operations by processing transactions, resolving operational exceptions, supporting branch teams, maintaining regulatory compliance, and serving as the backup to the Wire Transfer Specialist.
Position Summary
The Deposit Operations Specialist supports the Bank's daily deposit operations, including ACH processing, payment settlement, electronic funds transfer (EFT), account maintenance, operational reporting, general ledger reconciliations, exception processing, debit card operations, wire transfer support, fraud monitoring, and customer account administration. This role partners closely with branch staff to maintain operational excellence, strong internal controls, and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Process ACH, EFT, electronic payments, and payment settlements in accordance with NACHA Operating Rules and Bank policy.
- Review and resolve deposit exceptions, debit card activity, fraud alerts, disputes, mobile deposits, teller capture, and account maintenance requests.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations, operational reporting, public fund pledging, and year-end tax reporting.
- Review new, closed, dormant, and inactive accounts for accuracy and compliance.
- Serve as the primary back-office resource for branch staff and assist with escalated customer inquiries.
- Provide backup support for domestic and international wire transfers.
- Maintain compliance with BSA/AML, OFAC, Regulation E, NACHA, and Bank policies.
- Participate in process improvements, documentation updates, audits, and core banking system enhancements.
Qualifications
Required
- 3–5 years of experience in Deposit Operations, Bank Operations, Back-Office Banking, Treasury Operations, or Electronic Payments.
- Experience with ACH, EFT, payment processing, reconciliations, operational reporting, account maintenance, and exception processing.
- Knowledge of NACHA Operating Rules, Regulation E, BSA/AML, OFAC, debit card operations, fraud prevention, and internal banking controls.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent written, verbal, and customer service communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience processing wire transfers.
- Business Online Banking support experience.
- Debit card operations, fraud prevention, or dispute processing experience.
- Community banking experience.
- Experience supporting a core banking system conversion.
