United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Quality Area Manager at our Gary Tin facility.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Administers the U.S. Steel safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the operating facility.
- Directs activities of Quality Engineers, Product Engineers, and Management Associates.
- Ensures proper disposition of product produced at Gary Tin.
- Oversees ERP activities for order dressing and ensures proper order setup of Gary Tin orders.
- Directs the evaluation, selection, assignment, and development of professional staff.
- Develops, implements, and communicates a short- and long-term strategy.
- Develops and utilizes continual improvement methods to enhance process control, consistency, and costs.
- Works with management to identify and coordinate successful implementation of continual improvement activities including manufacturing operations, maintenance, quality, environmental, cost, and other key drivers.
- Defines, measures, analyzes, implements, and controls key quality characteristics data for process quality management utilizing statistical techniques to demonstrate process capability, reduce defects, improve quality, and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Supports Corrective & Preventive Action activities aimed at providing customer corrective action, quality management system issues, correcting process deviations, and error proofing known and discovered potential failure modes.
- Utilizes management skills to direct and coordinate the efforts of employees assigned to the operating facility to produce the highest quality steel at the lowest cost.
- Maintains Plant''s Quality Management System to ensure compliance to ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, and Customer Specific Requirements.
- Works with Automotive Core Tools (FMEA, SPC, APQP, PPAP, and MSA).
- Administrates Corrective/Preventive Action System, Process Change, and Document Management Systems.
- Develops and reviews various quality reports, conducts various quality meetings, performs internal Quality Management System audits to ensure operation is running within defined operation/quality parameters and procedures, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required with a preference for metallurgical engineering, material science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering
- Bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering or Material Science preferred
- At least 6 years' experience in steel or heavy industrial manufacturing
- Demonstrates technical expertise in Quality Assurance activities
- Demonstrates communication, teamwork, organization, leadership, problem solving, and planning skills required
