Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Health Sciences Department Chair, Imaging serves as the academic and administrative leader for the Imaging Department and other assigned Health Sciences programs. Reporting to the Associate Dean and Dean of Health Sciences, the Department Chair provides leadership for academic quality, faculty development, accreditation, enrollment management, budget administration, strategic planning, student success, and operational excellence.

As a member of the Health Sciences leadership team, the Department Chair collaborates with faculty, staff, administrators, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders to ensure high-quality educational programs that meet accreditation standards and workforce needs while advancing the mission and strategic priorities of Forsyth Technical Community College.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current unrestricted professional certification and/or licensure in an imaging discipline, as appropriate.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time clinical experience in an imaging specialty.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible leadership experience directing academic, clinical, or healthcare operations, including supervision of professional staff, strategic planning, budget management, and operational oversight. Experience with teaching, curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting accreditation through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and/or other applicable accrediting agencies for assigned imaging programs.
  • Demonstrated success developing collaborative relationships with clinical affiliates, healthcare organizations, employers, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively as a member of a divisional leadership team.
  • Experience supervising personnel, managing budgets, and leading continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred :

  • Higher education teaching and administrative leadership experience.
  • Experience with grant development, workforce development, or community partnerships.

Essential Duties

Under the leadership and approval of the Dean and Vice President the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities will be assigned (other duties may be assigned):

Leadership and Administration

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for assigned programs.
  • Develop departmental goals aligned with divisional and institutional priorities.
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the Health Sciences leadership team.
  • Ensure compliance with College policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize data to support planning, assessment, continuous quality improvement, and student success.
  • Represent the department through College committees, community partnerships, and professional organizations.

Academic Programs

  • Lead curriculum planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate course scheduling and instructional delivery.
  • Monitor enrollment, retention, completion, licensure, and graduate employment outcomes.
  • Lead specialized accreditation activities, including self-studies, annual reports, compliance monitoring, and site visits.
  • Promote instructional excellence, innovation, and evidence-based educational practices.

Faculty Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, mentor, develop, and evaluate faculty and staff.
  • Recommend teaching assignments and support faculty professional development.
  • Ensure faculty maintain required credentials, licensure, and professional competencies.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Student Success

  • Promote student recruitment, retention, progression, completion, and licensure success.
  • Collaborate with faculty and student support services to improve student outcomes.
  • Address student concerns and informal academic appeals in accordance with College policy.

Budget, Resources, and Partnerships

  • Develop and manage departmental budgets and resources.
  • Oversee laboratories, instructional equipment, and learning environments.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with clinical affiliates, healthcare organizations, employers, advisory committees, and community stakeholders to support student learning and workforce development.

Continuous Development

  • Develop a professional development plan for approval by the supervisor and participate in those professional development activities that are approved.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.
  • Maintain membership and participation in professional organizations.
  • Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology;; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college.
