Job Summary ------------

The Kinesiology Department in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenured department Chair position. The Chair of the Department of Kinesiology is appointed by the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation and is accountable to the Dean.

Responsibilities ----------------

The roles and functions of the Chair Department of Kinesiology include:

  • Provision of leadership in the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Department of Kinesiology
  • Collaboration with other departments in the advancement of college priorities
  • Leadership and guidance to all Kinesiology faculty
  • Designing and executing a system of internal controls to provide reasonable assurance that department operations are effective and efficient
  • Safeguarding department assets
  • Ensuring department financial information is reliable and the department complies with college and university policies as well as applicable laws and regulations

Department Information ---------------------

The Department of Kinesiology is comprised of three undergraduate programs:

  • Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science program with tracks in Clinical & Applied Physiology, Health Fitness & Wellness, and Motor & Rehabilitation Sciences
  • Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with tracks in Physical Education Teacher Education and Sport Leadership and Management
  • Bachelor of Science in Public Health

The department also has three masters programs:

  • Master of Science in Exercise Science
  • Master of Science in Athletic Training
  • Master of Public Health
  • Ph.D. in Kinesiology

The Department of Kinesiology is an active member of the American Kinesiology Association (AKA).

Required Qualifications ----------------------

  • Tenured Ph.D. or equivalent degree in disciplines or fields of study within the Department of Kinesiology
  • 3-5 years leadership experience in higher education
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven leadership ability including collaborating with multiple stakeholders with varying priorities and conflict resolution
  • Broad knowledge of campus processes, protocols, and procedures with a focus on teaching, instruction, and administration
  • Proven skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options and recommendations for resolution
  • Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to influence and persuade all levels of faculty and staff

Essential Duties and Responsibilities --------------------------------------

  • Provides leadership and strategic oversight to the department of Kinesiology
  • Recruits and retains qualified faculty for all programs
  • Onboards orients and mentors new faculty
  • Leads regular faculty meetings, coordinates all faculty teaching assignments, and develops class schedules
  • Serves on various internal and external committees
  • Continually assesses the effectiveness of programs and operations through feedback surveys and other tools
  • Develops annual budget
  • Coordinates and oversees timely completion of reporting mechanisms, including the Unit Effectiveness Process (UEP)
  • Provides leadership mentorship and guidance for professional development for both tenured tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty members
  • Engages as a member of the faculty in teaching, scholarly activity, professional development, service, and institution building consistent with the Universitys mission and with a focus on strategic priorities

Curriculum Accreditation and Certifications ------------------------------------------

  • Leads the development and implementation of curricular changes
  • Examines and analyzes student evaluations, faculty feedback, and changing industry standards and expectations
  • Coordinates the approval of new programs

Leadership ----------

  • Contributes to the mission through direct teaching, research, scholarship, and service
  • Serves as a role model in these areas

Professional Development ----------------------

  • Maintains knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to ensure excellent and consistent leadership management and oversight of the Kinesiology department
  • Other duties as assigned

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation at the University of Texas at Arlington is the largest not-for-profit college of nursing with online and in-person students. Department of Kinesiology Information --------------------------------------

The Department of Kinesiology houses undergraduate and graduate programs in movement and rehabilitation science, integrative & applied physiology, physical education, public health, and athletic training to over 1,700 majors. Among the many undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department, this open faculty position is most related to the BS and MS degrees in Exercise Science and the nationally ranked PhD degree in Kinesiology.

Faculty in the Department of Kinesiology are funded by a wide range of agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Science Foundation, American Heart Association, Health Resources and Services Administration, and many others.

The University of Texas at Arlington and the Department of Kinesiology offer all faculty members access to state-of-the-art research facilities.
