At Northern Arizona Periodontics (NAZPerio), our Surgical Assistants are an essential part of our specialty surgical team. This role goes far beyond traditional chairside assisting and is ideal for someone who enjoys structure, teamwork, organization, patient care, and supporting a systems-forward clinical environment with consistency and professionalism.
Our Surgical Assistants work closely with our doctors and fellow team members to support:

Because specialty surgical assisting involves a significant learning curve, candidates with prior dental experience generally transition into the role more successfully and confidently over time. Dental assisting experience is strongly preferred but not required.

Primary Responsibilities
- Assist providers during evaluations
- Assist providers during periodontal and implant procedures
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and surgical materials
- Support sterilization and infection control protocols
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Support patient education and post-operative communication
- Enter treatment plans, deliver pre/post-operative instructions and consent forms
- Create and edit chart notes and patient letters
- Help maintain smooth schedule flow and clinic organization
- Support room turnover and operational readiness throughout the day
- Participate in onboarding, training, and workflow development
Qualifications
- Prior dental assisting experience strongly preferred
- Arizona X-ray certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months)
- CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to stay organized and focused in a quick systems-focused environment
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Reliable transportation and flexibility between office locations
