Dental Hygiene Clinical Director

Location: Pima Medical Institute - San Antonio Campus | On-Site

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $78,030 - $97,535 per year | Salaried Position

Pima Medical Institute is seeking an experienced and passionate Dental Hygiene Clinical Director to lead the clinical education experience at our San Antonio campus. In this role, you will oversee daily clinic operations, mentor faculty and coordinators, and ensure every dental hygiene student develops the competence and confidence to excel in their career.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership & Operations

  • Oversee daily clinic activities, ensuring compliance with policy, procedure, and patient care standards.
  • Manage and mentor clinic coordinators to ensure effective clinic operations and student competency development.
  • Schedule and chair clinic faculty briefings and calibration meetings.
  • Manage patient complaints, medical emergency kits, and conduct emergency training for staff, faculty, and students.
  • Oversee clinic and lab facility operations including equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacement.
  • Manage clinic-related payroll and ensure appropriate clinical faculty coverage.
  • Oversee clinical supply inventory, purchasing, and ensure expenditures remain within the annual clinic budget.
  • Assist in the recruitment of patients and maintain relationships with community partners.

Faculty & Staff Supervision

  • Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate clinical faculty and staff.
  • Maintain faculty credentialing, licensure, certification, and CPR records in compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Facilitate new faculty orientation, onboarding, and calibration.

Student Clinical Education

  • Collaborate with Clinical Coordinators to review student performance, identify areas of concern, and develop remediation plans.
  • Provide students with remediation and tutoring assistance as needed.
  • Refer students to the Student Services Coordinator when assistance is beyond the instructor's scope or at the student's request.
  • Coordinate with the Program Director to ensure clinical education reflects program competencies.
  • Perform functions of a dental hygiene instructor through classroom, skills, and clinical instruction as needed.

Curriculum, Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Participate in curriculum review and provide recommendations based on CODA accreditation standards and industry practices.
  • Evaluate, revise, and update all clinical policies and procedures including the clinic manual, QA plan, OSHA, and HIPAA protocols.
  • Participate in student applicant interviews, faculty and advisory board meetings.
  • Represent Pima Medical Institute at professional meetings and functions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or CHEA.
  • Must be a dental hygienist or dentist who is a graduate of a CODA-accredited program.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as a dental hygienist or dentist.
  • Must hold and maintain current dental or dental hygiene licenses, certifications, and fulfill all continuing education hours, mandated training, and CPR certification as required by local, state, or federal laws.
  • Scope of practice-specific certifications as required.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and related applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Instructional and administrative experience; previous teaching experience in a CODA-accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Work experience with Dentrix and/or Eaglesoft.
