The Dental Hygienist is a key performer in the success of the practice, driving the productivity of the faculty/dentists they support. Provide a service that patients need 2-3x years for overall dental care and are also the first point of contact for all dental specialist referrals to the practice. Ensure medical alerts are entered, guide patients towards the best provider for the patients individual needs, acquire a basic understanding of each patients insurance coverage and treatment plan for all the faculty providers/dentists.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Perform prophylaxis/periodontal maintenance with oral hygiene instructions.

  2. Capture radiographic images, monitor periodontal disease and caries risk, discuss and plan treatment with faculty provider.

  3. Apply fluoride and educate patients on caries risk.

  4. Maintain operatory in accordance with federal and state regulatory agencies with the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control, while also following MUSoD Central Sterilization protocol.

  5. Maintain patient records using MUSoDs clinic management system, with special attention paid to updating medical information and vitals.

  6. Monitor schedules and verify provider coverage for exams and consults, assist in provider treatment planning.

  7. Identify and schedule periodic oral examinations as needed for recall patients.

  8. Guide patients towards a general/specialist provider based on the individuals dental needs.

  9. Secure patient records for daily appointments.

  10. Schedule and confirm patient appointments, exams and recall appointments as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A degree from an accredited Dental Hygiene Program and hold a valid License to practice from the State of Wisconsin.

Continued education credits/hours to maintain license.

The ability to communication professionally with a diverse patient population is also required.
