Position Summary:

The Dental Assistant supports the oral surgeon and clinical team by preparing treatment rooms, assisting during procedures, and helping maintain a safe, efficient surgical environment. This role is responsible for ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are properly prepared, maintained, and available to support smooth clinical workflows. Working as part of a collaborative and patient-focused dental team, the Dental Assistant provides high-quality care and professional customer service to patients of all ages. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and compassionate care are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist dentists during examinations, restorative procedures, and other dental treatments while maintaining patient comfort and safety.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient clinical operations and readiness for patient care.
  • Obtain and document patient information, update health histories, and support accurate clinical recordkeeping in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Perform instrument processing, sterilization, and infection prevention activities following established safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-procedure instructions, and preventive dental care recommendations as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain inventory of dental supplies, monitor equipment functionality, and coordinate replacement or repair needs to support uninterrupted services.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Must be qualified as a Dental Assistant and renew annually.
  • CPR Certification must be obtained within 3 months of hire, with renewal every two (2) years.

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved Dental Assisting Program and Certification or Registration in ND.

Experience Requirements:

  • Prior experience in a dental office setting is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

The Dental Assistant is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and maintain positioning during patient care and dental procedures. The role involves handling instruments, moving supplies and equipment, and performing repetitive hand and wrist movements requiring fine motor coordination and manual dexterity. Adequate vision, hearing, and communication abilities are necessary to assist providers, observe patient conditions, and safely perform clinical duties.

Environmental Requirements:

The work is performed primarily in a dental clinic or outpatient healthcare setting with regular exposure to patients, clinical equipment, and dental treatment areas. The role may encounter exposure to infectious diseases, blood, saliva, bodily fluids, sharp instruments, dental materials, and cleaning or disinfecting agents. Consistent adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE), infection prevention protocols, and workplace safety standards is required.
