Description

Job Purpose: The Deli Manager at Hugo's Family Marketplace is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the deli department, ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining high standards of food safety and quality, and driving sales and profitability. This role involves managing a team, optimizing inventory, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Deli Manager will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming environment for customers and fostering a productive and positive workplace for staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service by ensuring that all customer inquiries and issues are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Develop and manage employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage and efficient operation of the deli department.
  • Oversee merchandising activities to enhance product visibility and appeal, driving sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff to enhance their skills in food preparation, customer service, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage ordering processes to ensure optimal stock levels and minimize waste, coordinating with suppliers as necessary.
  • Implement and maintain inventory control measures to track stock levels, reduce shrinkage, and maximize profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, conducting regular inspections and audits.
  • Supervise food preparation activities to ensure high-quality products and adherence to recipes and standards.
  • Perform bookwork and administrative tasks, including maintaining accurate records of sales, expenses, and inventory.
  • Execute supervisory duties, including performance evaluations, conflict resolution, and fostering a positive team environment.

Qualifications

Required Education: High school diploma or GED Preferred Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in food service management, culinary arts, business, or retail management Food safety certifications (ServSafe, local health department certifications) Required Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a deli, grocery, or food service environment Preferred Experience: 3–5+ years of deli or food service experience Prior supervisory or management experience Experience with scheduling, inventory control, and ordering Experience enforcing food safety and sanitation standards Required Skills and Abilities: Leadership and staff supervision Customer service and conflict resolution Food preparation and deli product knowledge Food safety, sanitation, and health code compliance Inventory and cost control Time management and organization Communication and teamwork Problem-solving and decision-making
