    Purpose

    The Deli Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all activities of the Deli Department to achieve sales, labor, customer service, food safety, inventory, and profitability goals. The Deli Manager leads department associates, oversees food production and merchandising activities, ensures compliance with food safety standards, and delivers a positive customer experience through quality products and exceptional service.

    Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development

    • Recruit, train, coach, and develop Deli Department associates.
    • Schedule associates to meet production, service, and operational needs.
    • Provide ongoing performance feedback, recognition, and corrective action when appropriate.
    • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence.
    • Support succession planning and associate development initiatives.

    Customer Service

    • Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
    • Assist customers with product selections, special orders, and deli-related inquiries.
    • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Promote customer loyalty through friendly service and product knowledge.
    • Maintain a welcoming and customer-focused department environment.

    Department Operations

    • Oversee daily Deli Department operations, including food preparation, production, merchandising, stocking, and inventory management.
    • Ensure service cases, displays, and self-service areas are fully stocked and properly presented.
    • Monitor inventory levels and order products and supplies as needed.
    • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and promotional execution.
    • Coordinate product preparation and production schedules to meet customer demand.

    Product Quality & Food Safety

    • Ensure all products meet company quality and freshness standards.
    • Monitor food preparation, storage, handling, labeling, and rotation procedures.
    • Maintain compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
    • Conduct routine quality inspections and ensure corrective actions are taken when necessary.
    • Ensure associates consistently follow food safety procedures and department standards.

    Merchandising & Sales Growth

    • Execute company merchandising plans, seasonal programs, and promotional events.
    • Maintain attractive displays that maximize product visibility and sales.
    • Analyze department sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.
    • Promote featured products, meal solutions, and seasonal offerings.
    • Develop action plans to achieve sales and profitability goals.

    Financial Management

    • Manage department labor, inventory, expenses, and shrink.
    • Monitor key performance indicators and departmental financial results.
    • Ensure efficient labor scheduling and productivity.
    • Maintain inventory accuracy and effective stock management practices.
    • Develop and implement plans to improve operational and financial performance.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Maintain a safe working environment for customers and associates.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and operational requirements.
    • Support asset protection and shrink reduction programs.
    • Ensure equipment is operated safely and maintained properly.
    • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Strong leadership and associate development skills.
    • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
    • Knowledge of deli operations, food preparation, merchandising, inventory control, and food safety practices.
    • Understanding of sanitation requirements and regulatory compliance.
    • Ability to analyze sales and operational reports.
    • Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency with retail systems, inventory tools, and ordering technology.
