    Position Purpose

    The Deli Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the Deli Department, including sales, food production, merchandising, inventory management, customer service, food safety, and associate development. This position ensures the department consistently delivers high-quality products, outstanding customer service, and operational excellence while achieving sales and profitability goals. The Deli Manager maintains company standards for freshness, sanitation, safety, and presentation while creating an exceptional shopping experience for customers.

    Key Responsibilities Department Operations

    • Direct and oversee the daily operations of the Deli Department.
    • Ensure department standards for food quality, freshness, presentation, and cleanliness are consistently maintained.
    • Coordinate food production and product availability to meet customer demand.
    • Maintain attractive, fully stocked service cases, displays, and self-service areas.
    • Execute company merchandising plans, promotional programs, and seasonal initiatives.
    • Monitor department productivity and operational efficiency.

    Food Production & Inventory Management

    • Oversee food preparation, packaging, labeling, and display activities.
    • Manage ordering, receiving, inventory control, and replenishment processes.
    • Ensure proper product rotation using First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory practices.
    • Monitor inventory levels to minimize out-of-stocks and reduce waste.
    • Maintain pricing accuracy and promotional compliance.
    • Control shrink through proper forecasting, inventory management, and production planning.

    Sales & Financial Performance

    • Achieve department sales, gross margin, and profitability goals.
    • Analyze sales reports and operational metrics to identify performance opportunities.
    • Develop and implement action plans to improve department results.
    • Manage labor expenses through effective scheduling and productivity planning.
    • Support company initiatives focused on increasing sales and customer satisfaction.

    Customer Service

    • Promote and deliver exceptional customer service.
    • Assist customers with product selection, catering requests, meal solutions, and special orders.
    • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
    • Ensure associates provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
    • Foster customer loyalty through quality products and positive customer experiences.

    Leadership & Associate Development

    • Recruit, train, coach, and develop deli associates.
    • Establish performance expectations and hold associates accountable for results.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
    • Promote teamwork, engagement, and a positive work environment.
    • Identify and develop future leaders within the department.
    • Ensure associates are properly trained on food handling, customer service, and department procedures.

    Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
    • Monitor proper food handling, storage, preparation, labeling, and temperature controls.
    • Maintain required department documentation and records.
    • Conduct routine inspections and address deficiencies immediately.
    • Ensure compliance with all company policies and operational standards.

    Safety & Loss Prevention

    • Maintain a safe environment for customers and associates.
    • Ensure safe operation of slicers, ovens, fryers, mixers, and other department equipment.
    • Identify and correct workplace hazards promptly.
    • Support loss prevention efforts and shrink reduction initiatives.
    • Maintain compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.
