A Typical Day:

The Defense Litigation Specialist II will manage, monitor, and track non-routine litigation matters, including defense litigation, escalated servicing litigation, contested foreclosures, adversary bankruptcy proceedings, high risk title matters, and pre-litigation customer disputes with settlement demands.  In this role, you will perform deep factual research, evaluate risks, and compile necessary documentation to support the Legal department's initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Case Management: Manage, monitor, and track a caseload of litigated files, ensuring all file statuses, legal updates, and risk assessments are meticulously documented and issues are escalated to impacted business lines as needed.
  • Discovery & Counsel Support: Retrieve, organize, and provide loan-level data and documentation to both in-house and outside counsel to support defense litigation efforts.
  • Research & Evaluation: Perform factual research on loan documentation, evaluate findings from attorneys or business partners, utilize servicing system data to proactively assess litigation risk, and escalate potential servicing risks.
  • Corporate Representation: Potentially travel and attend legal proceedings—including mediations and settlement conferences—to deliver the company's position and represent corporate interests.
What You’ll Bring:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred or an Associate’s degree with equivalent work experience.
  • Industry Experience: Financial Services and/or mortgage industry experience is preferred.
  • Legal Knowledge: Strong knowledge of the legal process, procedural law, and the ability to review, analyze, and decipher complex legal allegations and mortgage-related documents.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Google Sheets, Docs and Slides, Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Systems Expertise: Proficiency with mortgage servicing systems or platforms.
  • Communication Skills: Professional, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex material to all levels of management.
