Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a _Day Ahead Balancing Operator or Senior_ to join our Power Supply team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. While this position is based at Idaho Power’s west Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote. Whatdoes a Day Ahead Balancing Operator or Seniordoforus?


The Day Ahead Balancing Operator or Senior works to reliably and economically balance the load and resources of a bulk power system on a day-ahead and short-term basis. The role forecasts load, as well as forecasts, analyzes, and evaluates power supply options, including Idaho Power generation resources, contracts, and wholesale purchases. The role develops and implements a daily load and resource plan that reliably and economically meets Idaho Power’s forecasted load while complying with all applicable regulations and requirements. The position performs scheduling and energy transactions with various counter parties, based upon market knowledge, that best optimizes Idaho Power's generation, market purchases, and transmission resources in a safe, reliable, and economic manner. This position negotiates and purchases power and transmission from other counterparties in the region. The position also provides information to support to real-time employees and other groups to support operation of the bulk power system. The job requires NERC certification, continuous training, and occasional travel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Day Ahead Balancing Operator


Education:


+ Bachelor's degree in economics, accounting, finance, business, or engineering


OR


+ An equivalent training and/or experience


Preferred:


+ Advanced degree in a business discipline


OR


+ An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities


Experience:


+ 4 years of experience in natural gas or power trading/scheduling environment


OR


+ 4 years of experience in natural gas or power system operations


Preferred:


+ 6 years of experience in power and natural gas trading/scheduling with exposure to power system operations


Licenses & Certifications:


+ Ability to obtain NERC Certification within 12 months of date of hire


Preferred:


+ Current NERC certification


Senior Day Ahead Balancing Operator


Education:


+ Bachelor's degree in economics, accounting, finance, business, or engineering


OR


+ An equivalent training and/or experience


Preferred:


+ Advanced degree in a business discipline


OR


+ An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities


Experience:


+ 6 years of experience in natural gas or power trading/scheduling environment


OR


+ 6 years of experience in natural gas or power system operations


Preferred:


+ 7 years of experience in power and natural gas trading/scheduling with exposure to power system operations


Licenses & Certifications:


+ Ability to obtain NERC Certification within 12 months of date of hire


Preferred:


+ Current NERC certification


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires successful completion of a Personnel Risk Assessment background check, per NERC’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Standards, and ongoing compliance with CIP and other regulatory requirements as applicable.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position currently requires a Monday-Friday schedule that aligns with energy trading and scheduling timeframes (i.e., 5:00 A.M. MPT schedule start time). Occasional work may be required on weekends and occasional travel with overnight stays may be required. The position schedule may change in the future based on work schedules and needs and may include a 7-day-a-week daytime shift schedule. The potential future schedule is not expected to include overnight schedules.
