Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (Database Administrator III) to perform advanced database administration, development, migration, performance tuning, security, and recovery activities for complex enterprise applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server/Azure SQL, relational database administration, database design, performance optimization, data migration, logical and physical data modeling, and enterprise application environments.

The DBA III will work closely with application development teams supporting full-stack Java applications in cloud environments and Agile/Scrum teams. The role will involve migrating data from Oracle applications to SQL schemas, converting Oracle Stored Procedures and Functions to Azure SQL, and ensuring database performance, availability, security, and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform advanced database administration for complex enterprise applications.
• Administer and support Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Azure SQL database environments.
• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize relational database structures.
• Create and maintain logical and physical data models.
• Perform database design, analysis, indexing, tuning, and performance optimization.
• Migrate data from Oracle applications to SQL schemas and load data into appropriate collections/tables.
• Convert Oracle Stored Procedures and Functions to Azure SQL.
• Perform data transformation, conversion, migration, and ETL activities.
• Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
• Implement database monitoring solutions to track health, performance, capacity, and operational metrics.
• Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Manage database users, roles, permissions, and security controls.
• Implement security measures for data at rest and in motion.
• Support high availability, clustering, load balancing, replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Develop and execute database backup, recovery, purging, archiving, and restoration procedures.
• Support replication and backup to secondary/disaster recovery environments.
• Establish and maintain database policies and standards.
• Ensure database integrity, availability, confidentiality, and reliability for sensitive and business-critical systems.
• Develop and maintain technical and functional database documentation.
• Create test database environments, including required libraries, procedures, and supporting components.
• Monitor database performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency.
• Perform benchmarking and threshold testing.
• Support data dictionary maintenance and ensure consistent definitions and standards.
• Assist with database security and disaster recovery planning.
• Collaborate with application developers, analysts, architects, and other technical teams.
• Support full-stack Java applications operating in cloud environments.
• Work within an Agile/Scrum software development lifecycle.
• Assist with enterprise application and service design involving multi-tier architectures, SOA, and microservices.
• Provide technical assistance to users and development teams regarding database access and data retrieval.
• Ensure database administration interfaces and data input/output processes support applicable EIR accessibility standards.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional database experience.
• 8+ years of experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server or similar database platforms.
• 8+ years of experience with relational database administration, including SQL Server and/or Oracle.
• 8+ years of experience in database design, analysis, and performance tuning.
• 8+ years of experience with database structures, data analysis, and performance optimization.
• 8+ years of experience designing enterprise applications and/or services.
• 8+ years of experience creating technical and functional design documentation.
• 8+ years of experience working through the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies such as Scrum.
• 8+ years of experience with multi-tier system/application development, including SOA, Microservices, or 3-Tier architectures.
• Strong knowledge of database structures, theories, technologies, and administration practices.
• Strong knowledge of database security, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work effectively with developers, analysts, and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience with large-volume databases, high availability, and disaster recovery infrastructure.
• 6+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure.
• 6+ years of experience extracting, transforming, and loading data from various sources into Azure SQL.
• 3+ years of experience with DevOps technologies, including CI/CD pipelines, Git, and build/deployment tools.
• 3+ years of experience with Java/J2EE Enterprise Development.
• 1+ year of experience with Azure certification.
• 1+ year of experience with DBA Associate certifications.
