Shape how Iowa's history is captured, organized, and preserved- one dataset, survey, and historic property at a time. Join our State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) team as the Data and Survey Manager at the Iowa Economic Development Authority, located in Des Moines, IA, where your work will directly support the identification, preservation, and protection of Iowa's historic and prehistoric resources.

The Iowa State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) works to identify, preserve, and protect Iowa's historic and prehistoric resources and historic properties and also administer historic preservation programs. The Iowa SHPO administers the Certified Local Government, National Register of Historic Places, and Review & Compliance programs. SHPO is also a partner with IEDA for the state historic tax credits and the National Park Service for the federal historic tax incentives program.
About this Opportunity
The Data and Survey Manager position supports Iowa's historic preservation efforts by managing data systems, maintaining accurate property records, coordinating GIS data, and assisting with program reviews and compliance activities. The Data and Survey Manager position has the opportunity to be involved in projects across the office as they handle the intake and sharing of documentation on Iowa's cultural resources.

The Data and Survey Manager position is a non-merit, non-contract position that is classified by the State of Iowa as a Historical Program Specialist and is exempt per FLSA regulations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this
job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in history, anthropology, archeology, architecture, curatorial/museum management, literature, English, art, natural history, architectural history, library science, or historic preservation, and experience equal to one year of full-time work in professional research, museum, education, editing, or other experience associated with history, anthropology, archaeology, architecture, architectural history, art, museums, historic sites, or historic preservation.
2) A total of five years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in history, anthropology, archeology, architecture, curatorial/museum management, literature, English, art, natural history, architectural history, library science, or historic preservation equals one year of full-time experience.
