Job Description:

Data Security Engineer

Location: Maryland Heights, Missouri (Remote)

Role Overview

We are seeking a senior-level Data Security Engineer to enhance data protection capabilities. This role focuses on the engineering and operationalization of data security solutions, specifically involving Microsoft Purview. The position involves finishing an initial Purview build-out, operationalizing security policies, and performing ongoing alert triage and incident routing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Triage and investigate data security alerts, prioritizing incidents based on risk, sensitivity, and business impact.
  • Communicate security issues and compliance gaps to stakeholders, business areas, and vendors.
  • Aid remediation efforts to correct internal and external data security related issues.
  • Focus on Microsoft Purview DLP, label enforcement, and alert triage.
  • Translate enterprise data security controls for unstructured data into enforceable controls for structured data sources like databases and data warehouses.
  • Support the deployment of new data security solutions for proof-of-concept efforts.
  • Manage ongoing triage and routing to relevant teams.

Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in data security, cybersecurity engineering, or cloud security roles.
  • Experience supporting audits, risk assessments, and regulatory examinations.
  • Experience communicating technical risks and their business impact to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with structured data and databases.

Technical Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data protection techniques including encryption, tokenization, masking, and anonymization.
  • Proficiency with data classification and tagging strategies for sensitive data.
  • Understanding of insider threat detection, UEBA, and anomaly detection techniques.
  • Knowledge of zero trust architecture and identity-aware data access.
  • Familiarity with regular expressions (Regex) is helpful.
  • Knowledge of NIST SP 800-53 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience with Exact Data Match (EDM) within Purview.
  • Hands-on experience in data security engineering within a financial services environment.
  • Experience implementing data security controls for Machine Learning or Large Language Model (AI) systems.
  • Familiarity with GLBA, SOX, FFIEC, and NYDFS 500 regulatory requirements.
