Toll Brothers, America's Luxury Home Builder, seeks a Data Platform Engineer to join our team at our Corporate Office in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.

What is the opportunity?

The Data Platform Engineer is responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and operational support of enterprise data platforms across hybrid environments, including Microsoft Azure and on-premises SQL Server infrastructure. This role combines advanced SQL Server Database Administration with Azure data platform engineering, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of mission-critical database systems and data integration services.

The engineer will manage Azure SQL services and on-premises SQL Server environments, support enterprise data integration pipelines, collaborate with application and analytics teams, and implement governance, monitoring, automation, and cost-optimization best practices across the organization's data ecosystem.

What are the primary responsibilities?

Data Infrastructure & Integration Engineering

  • Maintain Azure resources supporting data integration and movement, including Azure Data Factory, Azure networking and connectivity (Private Endpoints, VNETs, firewalls)
  • Support scheduling, monitoring, and reliability of data pipelines and integrations
  • Partner with application, analytics, and integration teams to onboard new data sources
  • Ensure data integration platforms meet performance, availability, and security standards
  • Manage Azure resources using Infrastructure as Code (ARM, Bicep)
  • Implement monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and alerts
  • Enforce resource governance, tagging standards, and cost-optimization practices
  • Participate in incident response, on-call support, and operational readiness reviews
  • Document standards, procedures, and architectural decisions
  • Support, maintain, and troubleshoot SSIS packages.
  • Deploy and manage SSIS packages using SSIS Catalog (SSISDB).
  • Support, maintain, and troubleshoot SSIS packages.
  • Support and manage Azure Integration Services (AIS) components, including ADF
  • Optimize data integration workflows for performance and reliability.
  • Support ADF pipelines, linked services, datasets, and integration runtimes.

Database Administration

  • Administer and support Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, and SQL Server on VMs
  • Perform database provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, and decommissioning
  • Manage backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Monitor and tune database performance, capacity, and resource utilization
  • Support change management, release coordination, and production deployments
  • Troubleshoot database incidents and perform root-cause analysis
  • Implement database security best practices, including role-based access, encryption, auditing, and vulnerability assessments.
  • Manage authentication and authorization using Azure AD and SQL security.

Governance, Security & Cost Management

  • Enforce Azure governance standards (naming, tagging, access policies)
  • Monitor and optimize Azure consumption and costs for database and integration services
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, and security assessments
  • Apply change management and release governance best practices
  • Implement and manage security controls, including authentication, authorization, encryption, auditing, and compliance

Qualifications

Do you have these qualifications?

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in Azure SQL Server database administration or data platform engineering
  • Strong expertise with SQL Server and Azure SQL services (Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, or SQL Server on Azure VMs)
  • Strong expertise in SQL Server (2016+)
  • Solid experience supporting SSIS packages
  • Experience in creating and maintaining Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • T-SQL performance tuning
  • Indexing strategies
  • Backup and recovery
  • High availability and disaster recovery
  • Experience with PowerShell or automation scripting
