AWS Specialist Technology Team (STT) is the connective tissue between AWS"s deep technical specialists, field teams, and customers-delivering L300+ technical expertise, mechanisms, and products that accelerate customer success and drive frictionless AWS adoption at scale. Our mission spans two fronts: we are fundamentally transforming how thousands of field team members access specialist knowledge through AI-powered, on-demand expertise across 30+ technical domains, and we build and ship customer-facing engineered solutions that accelerate AWS service adoption across industries.

Our portfolio spans AI-powered specialist knowledge systems, hands-on engagement platforms (e.g., Workshop Studio), content quality and recommendation engines, and go-to-market orchestration tools-collectively enabling field teams to deliver high-quality technical engagements at scale. These products serve thousands of users across the AWS sales organization, generating rich signals about content effectiveness, engagement delivery, knowledge consumption, and field team productivity that require a sophisticated data strategy to capture, model, and translate into actionable insight.

We are seeking a Data Engineering Manager to build and lead the data engineering and business intelligence function for STT. You will own the centralized data infrastructure that measures the efficacy and impact of our entire product portfolio, and you will drive the evolution from static reporting into an ecosystem of intelligent, agent-powered data experiences that enable stakeholders to intuitively access and consume data within their day-to-day workflows.

This is a foundational leadership role with direct visibility to senior leaders across AWS"s sales organization. The insights and data your team generates inform high-impact decisions about where to invest, how to measure organizational effectiveness, and how to demonstrate the value our products deliver at scale. You will manage a team of Business Intelligence Engineers and Data Engineers, owning the full end-to-end data strategy-from foundational infrastructure and pipeline engineering through to analytics, measurement, and insight delivery. You are not just building data assets; you are ensuring the right questions get answered and the right data reaches the right decision-makers at the right time to move the needle on large business outcomes.

Key job responsibilities

  • Define and own the data strategy and centralized architecture for the organization-connecting product telemetry, usage metrics, and business outcomes into a coherent, scalable data ecosystem
  • Partner with Product Teams and senior leaders to establish measurement frameworks that quantify product efficacy and business impact, enabling data-driven investment decisions across the portfolio
  • Lead the evolution from static dashboards toward agentic data systems that allow AI to surface insights within existing field team workflows
  • Build, manage, and develop a high-performing team of Business Intelligence Engineers and Data Engineers, maintaining a high hiring bar and fostering a culture of operational excellence
  • Partner with product management, engineering, and field leadership to ensure data infrastructure meets stakeholder needs and answers the right business questions
  • Drive integration strategies that embed analytics into day-to-day workflows, reducing friction between data and decision-making
  • Represent the data function in executive reviews with Directors and VPs, articulating strategy, results, and trade-offs
  • Make architectural trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term scalability, balancing speed-to-insight with data quality and governance

About the team

You will be joining a high-growth engineering organization that is at the forefront of applying generative AI and agentic technologies to transform how AWS field teams operate. The pace of innovation is high, the problems are ambiguous, and the impact is measured across thousands of field team members and the customers they serve. This role offers the opportunity to define a function from the ground up and shape how an entire organization consumes and acts on data.

Amazon.com Inc

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
