Strategic Analysis, Inc. (SA) is currently seeking aData Engineerto support our Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research & Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) customer. OUSD(R&E) has the responsibility within the Department of Defense (DoD) for synchronizing Science & Technology (S&T) efforts across the DoD, the Joint Staff, and the Services.This is a hybrid position. On-site work with our government clients in the Mark Center of Alexandria, VA is to be performed as needed, estimated to be at minimum one (1) day per month, and subject to change.As a Data Engineer you will:·Research, recommend, and implement the optimal combination of technologies for a RDT&E dashboard data platform (e.g., databases, processing frameworks, orchestration tools).·Set up any necessary data storage while keeping long-term scalability in mind.·Connect live data via Application Programming Interface (API) or other appropriate mechanism for one or multiple sources, Real Property Assets Database/ Dynamic Information Architecture System, Facility Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization, Sustainment Management System Builder (RPAD/DIAS, FSRM, SMS Builder, Budget Data) while integrating flat supplemental files.·Work with domain experts (from the Services, OSD entities, system owners, etc.) to understand data being ingested to ensure subsequent modeling controls for abnormalities and/or structural differences.·Build a pipeline for data that includes loading and transforming into a data model appropriate for government use, while also ensuring the model considers short- and long-term data goals.·Create and enforce data governance policies, including data quality standards, data lineage tracking, and metadata management. Communicate policies to data analysts and infrastructure stakeholders to improve visualizations and collection mechanisms.·Monitor database (as applicable) and data model optimization and security, including but not limited to periodic testing of pipeline health and validity of data.·Work with data stakeholders and data analyst team to ensure background data and architecture meet the needs of requested visualizations and analyses.·Create and maintain detailed documentation for data architecture, data models, pipeline jobs, and all related processes.QUALIFICATIONSClearance: An active SECRET clearance is required.Education: A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university is required. At the discretion of the Government client, specialized experience may be substituted in lieu of educational requirements.Experience:•Five (5) years recent and relevant experience is required.•Experience supporting the federal government and the DoD is highly preferred.•Proficient experience in developing web-based data dashboards; solid front-end skills (HTMS, CSS, JavaScript, and visualization libraries like D3.js or Chart.js) to build interactive user interfaces, combined with back-end experience (APIs and databases) to query, clean, and pipe data efficiently. Alternatively, proficiency in data-centric frameworks like Streamlit or Dash to rapidly build and deploy dashboards entirely within a single language like Python.•Excellent communication skills, written and oral.•Ability to work independently with junior and senior staff in a distributed environment while maintaining a strong commitment to scheduled deliverables.
