Contract Length: 6–12 months, with potential extension Location: 100% Remote U.S. / Minneapolis Hybrid preferred Seeking a Senior Cloud Data Engineer / GCP Data Operations Engineer contractor to support a sensitive data analytics initiative for insider threat detection. This role will help configure, operate, and monitor Google Cloud capabilities needed to onboard data, manage Cloud Storage and BigQuery assets, schedule recurring analytics workflows, and ensure reliable access from Client's environments. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on Google Cloud experience, especially with project setup, IAM, service accounts, APIs, Cloud Storage, BigQuery, scheduled queries, and data transfer jobs. This person should be comfortable working independently with cloud engineering, security, analytics, and platform teams to define access needs, resolve issues, and maintain reliable daily operations. Job Description Set up and support Google Cloud projects, APIs, service accounts, IAM roles, permissions, Cloud Storage, and BigQuery resources. Partner with cloud engineering, compute, security, and platform teams to request and validate access, privileges, and connectivity. Support secure onboarding of sensitive data into Cloud Storage and BigQuery. Build and maintain BigQuery datasets, tables, views, scheduled queries, and recurring summary tables. Configure and monitor scheduled data transfers, query jobs, and recurring analytics workflows. Troubleshoot failed jobs, permission issues, schema changes, data availability problems, and API access issues. Help determine the right Google Cloud permissions and least-privilege access patterns needed for the project. Validate that environments can securely query cloud-hosted data for insider analytics. Document cloud resources, job schedules, access patterns, dependencies, runbooks, and support procedures. Ensure sensitive data is handled according to security, privacy, and governance requirements. Required Skills 3-5 years of experience in cloud engineering, data engineering, analytics engineering, or data platform operations. Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform. Experience with Google Cloud project setup, IAM, service accounts, permissions, and APIs. Strong BigQuery experience, including datasets, tables, views, SQL, scheduled queries, and summary table generation. Experience onboarding data into Google Cloud Storage and BigQuery. Experience scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting recurring data transfer or processing jobs. Strong SQL skills for data validation, transformation, aggregation, and analytics workflows. Understanding of cloud IAM, least-privilege access, service accounts, and permission troubleshooting. Experience working with centralized cloud, security, infrastructure, or platform teams. Comfortable supporting sensitive data and following strict access control and governance expectations. Nice to Have Experience with security analytics, insider threat, fraud, cyber defense, or risk detection use cases. Experience with Google Cloud Data Transfer Service, Cloud Composer / Airflow, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, or Cloud Run. Experience with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code. Experience with Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, Splunk, Grafana, or similar monitoring tools. Experience building dashboards for data freshness, job status, or pipeline health. Python experience for automation, data validation, API interaction, or operational tooling. Experience in large enterprise cloud environments. Familiarity with identity, endpoint, access log, or security event data. Candidate Profile Strong cloud data operations engineer who can quickly assess what is needed to make a Google Cloud analytics environment secure, functional, and reliable. Able to translate ambiguous data access and analytics needs into clear cloud engineering requests. Comfortable working across analytics, cybersecurity, cloud engineering, and platform teams. Strong ownership mindset for daily job monitoring, issue resolution, and operational reliability. Security-minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with sensitive data. Practical, execution-focused, and able to operate independently in a large enterprise environment.
