This high complexity testing is done in order to diagnose and treat genetic diseases such as congenital birth defects, fertility problems and hematological disorders.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:Specimen processing. Setup and maintenance of short and long term cell cultures. Notify appropriate individuals of/document any unsatisfactory specimens.Harvest cell cultures. Prepare slides for chromosome analysis, karyotype and fluorescence in site hybridization (FISH) analysis using GTG, NOR, C-banding, and DAPI staining techniques.Perform accurate microscopic counts, karyotypes and analysis of banded chromosomes and FISH signal counts and analysis for neoplastic and non-neoplastic cases. Correctly operate and maintain bright field, inverted, and fluorescent microscopes.Operates and maintains lab equipment. Documents quality control as needed preparing and maintaining regulatory requirements for CAP, CLIA, JOC, and GDCH. Prepares chemicals. Maintains par levels of chemicals and laboratory supplies.Exhibits competency with Cerner job functions, accurately accessioning orders, and maintains patient records.Performs other duties as assignedComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.Required Minimum Education:Bachelors Biology or Bachelors Chemistry or Bachelors Other-PreferredRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.MT(ASCP) - Medical Technologist or CT(ASCP) - Cytotechnologist - ASCP or HT(ASCP) - Histotechnician or MLT(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Technician or MLS(ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist or CG - Certified Technologist in Cytogenics or HTL - HistotechnologistAdditional License(s) and Certification(s):Required Minimum Experience:Required Minimum Skills:Attention to detail, multi-tasking, works well with others HighOrganized, effective communicator, adaptable.
