Cyber Security Engineer (AWS)

We are seeking a highly experienced Cyber Security Engineer (SME level) to support cloud security initiatives across AWS environments. This role will focus on securing cloud infrastructure, applications, and platforms while driving implementation of advanced security solutions and best practices.

Location: Hoover, AL
Pay: $61–69/hr (W2 Only)
Schedule: 40 hours/week (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Duration: Contract to Hire (Conversion ~$150K)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support enterprise-level cyber security solutions across AWS environments
• Provide hands-on engineering support including troubleshooting, patching, and break-fix activities
• Lead security architecture reviews and recommend improvements aligned to best practices
• Drive research, proof-of-concepts, and implementation of new security technologies
• Perform advanced analysis on build vs. buy decisions and present recommendations to leadership
• Develop and maintain security metrics, controls, and governance processes
• Lead or support incident response efforts and post-incident reviews
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align security initiatives with business objectives
• Mentor junior engineers and serve as a subject-matter expert for cloud security

Required Skills (Must Have)

• Strong AWS Security & Cloud Engineering experience
• AWS Services: EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, VPC, CloudFront, CloudWatch, API Gateway
• AWS Security tools including WAF and cloud-native security controls
• Kubernetes and container security
• Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
• Python scripting/automation
• Load balancing and AWS networking
• Web Application Firewall (WAF) expertise
• Strong knowledge of enterprise and network architecture and security frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in financial services or enterprise security environments
• Experience with CI/CD and development practices
• Security certifications (CISSP, Security+, CCNA, MCSA, etc.)
• Experience with API security, API design, or application security

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Information Security and/or IT (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
