The Costume Shop's Cutter/Draper assists in the day-to-day operations of the Theatre Arts costume shop and supervises all activities associated with the shop in consultation with the Costume Shop Manager. The Cutter/Draper supervises students in the costume shop and their proper and safe use of associated machinery. The Cutter/Draper produces patterns from costume renderings, sketches, and verbal instructions; supervises others and/or performs patterning, construction, assembling, and fitting of costumes for departmental productions; performs general maintenance and upkeep of shop machinery and equipment, helps to plan and organize the construction projects; makes alterations generated from fittings and dress rehearsals; and ensures that costumes maintain their appearance.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain safe operation of all tools in the Helfaer Theatre costume shop. Assist in regular maintenance and upkeep of shop machinery and tools. Ensures an accident-free learning and work environment by enforcing safety rules and supervising students when operating costume shop tools and equipment.
Manage construction of all costuming elements in consultation with the Theatre Arts Costume Shop Manager.
Pattern, drape, and construct costumes as needed in consultation with the Theatre Arts Costume Shop Manager.
Assist in the supervision of student workers in the construction of costume elements.
Assist in the supervision of student workers in the management of fabric and costume storage facilities.
Supervise the daily operation of the theatre costume shop including managing the inventory of tools through the proper check in procedures as well as end of session clean up procedures.
Ensure costume needs of theatre arts productions are met in a timely manner.
Assist with outside professional theatre companies, High Schools and Colleges with Costume Rentals. Keeping track of costume inventory being checked in and out. Assist with restocking as needed.
