Customer Applications Engineer — Sinker EDM

Why this role matters

Every day, manufacturers rely on MC Machinery Sinker EDM systems to hit challenging specs. You’ll be the expert who turns obstacles into repeatable processes—improving quality, cycle time, and confidence at the spindle. You’ll also help prospective customers see what’s possible through targeted demonstrations and test cuts that win business.

Your impact

Start with discovery—listening to the operator, reviewing programs, and auditing fixtures and electrodes. Next, you refine strategy, validate with on-machine testing, and coach the team on high power processing techniques they can sustain on the production floor. When a question pops up in another time zone, you’ll jump on the phone to troubleshoot. Along the way, you’ll coordinate with fellow Applications Engineers on marketing activities designed to secure new opportunities. Your primary coverage is your assigned territory, yet your expertise may be called upon throughout North America.

Core responsibilities

  • Independently analyze and resolve application-related issues to improve Sinker EDM performance.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to customer reports; engage additional MC Machinery resources when appropriate.
  • Create innovative, practical solutions using sound judgment and deep applications knowledge.
  • Provide remote diagnostics and troubleshooting via telephone.
  • Identify opportunities that drive sales revenue; execute persuasive demos and test cuts for prospects.
  • Deliver and design customer training—including high power processing—to optimize machine use; occasionally train internal staff.
  • Document findings and communicate strategies clearly with customers and teammates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently, assess customer issues, and act with limited supervision.
  • Professional presence that reinforces customer trust in MC Machinery and its products.
  • Extensive knowledge of EDM application engineering and relevant industry standards, including when adaptation or deviation is required.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM; strong CNC programming skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows OS; excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to travel as needed; valid driver’s license required.

Experience

  • Preferred: 2+ years’ experience operating, programming, setting up, and developing processes for EDM machinery.
  • Open to: Candidates with 2+ years of machine shop experience who are eager to train into the role.

Work setting

  • Primarily indoors with potential exposure to changing weather conditions (extreme heat/cold, rain, wind, sun).
  • Work near moving mechanical parts; moderate to loud noise levels.
  • Frequent driving and periods of overtime; ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical capabilities

  • Very frequent bending at the waist; twisting of the upper body; standing; speaking; hearing; frequent kneeling.
  • Repetitive hand use including squeezing; keyboarding; crouching.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying 1–10 lbs; recurrent 11–20 lbs; occasional 21–50+ lbs.
  • Constant pushing/pulling 1–50 lbs; infrequent over 50 lbs with handcarts or other wheeled devices.
  • Good visual and color acuity required.
