ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and polishes floors; sweeps and vacuums rugs; spot cleans carpets.
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork.
  • Empties, cleans, and lines waste receptacles and disposes of trash.
  • Washes and polishes doors, windows, walls, ceilings, venetian blinds, furniture, and fixtures.
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms; restocks restroom supplies as necessary; disinfects offices and interior areas as required.
  • Strips and waxes floors.
  • Closes windows, turns off lights, and locks and unlocks doors to secure buildings.
  • Keeps basic records of work performed and timesheets.
  • Observes safe working practices, including maintaining storage areas in a safe condition.
  • Corrects or reports any safety or fire hazards.
  • Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants, and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use.
  • Uses a variety of custodian tools, equipment, and supplies; maintains equipment and materials in proper condition.
  • Cleans and changes interior and exterior light bulbs and tubes, as necessary.
  • Assists in training and orienting new custodial employees.
  • Assists with facility projects, as necessary.
  • Observes and complies with City and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Must possess mobility to work in office and field environments, performing light to medium physical tasks.

  • Capable of sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, twisting, and other movements required for daily duties.

  • Able to operate hand tools, cleaning equipment, and motor vehicles safely; frequent walking to inspect work areas.

  • Requires strength and dexterity to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 50+ pounds with proper equipment or assistance.

  • Must use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain safety while performing tasks.

  • Incumbents may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work occurs both in office and field environments, with exposure to varying noise, temperatures, weather, and potential hazards.

  • Employees may encounter chemicals, fumes, and physical hazards while performing duties.

  • Position involves interacting with staff, the public, and private representatives to interpret and enforce policies.
