Part-time position without Benefits

Cleans and maintains all buildings and structures in public use assuring the facilities are clean and safe at all times.

Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Washes windows, walls, woodwork, and A/C vents.
  • Dusts chairs, tables, shelves, and other furniture or equipment
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; replaces toilet paper and paper towels.
  • Vacuums, sweeps, mops, and buffs the floors; shampoos carpet.
  • Places hazard signs to warn public of possible slick floor.
  • Collects and disposes of refuse such as papers, cans, newspapers, and coffee cups.
  • Empties ash trays.
  • Cleans and polishes furniture, brass, and other metal and woodwork.
  • Cleans sidewalks and outside areas of debris.
  • Replaces light bulbs in a timely manner.
  • Hangs the United States and Texas flags on a daily basis.
  • Waters plants and the grass; may operate a lawn mower and other lawn equipment to cut grass.
  • May perform minor repair of leaking water lines; unclogs sinks, commodes and urinals as needed.
  • Performs general errands such as distributing/delivering mail, agendas, and other materials.
  • Performs other manual tasks.
  • Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods, equipment, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry, electrical, plumbing work, air condition and heating systems.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
  • Ability to exercise care in the use of cleaning materials.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and routine manual cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to maintain valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and effective working relationships with other employees and respond to general public complaints.
  • Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures

  • Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age.

  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
