The Whitefish Bay School District has an opening for a Custodian III (Night Supervisor) working 2nd shift hours assigned to the High School/District. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, 12-month position.
Reports To: Director of Buildings and Grounds/Safety
Job Goals:
- To oversee and perform physical labor to maintain the school building(s) and grounds in a condition of operating excellence, so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.
- As a working supervisor, to be responsible for the operations, custodial services, minor maintenance work, and scheduling of manpower for special activities and set-ups within their respective facilities.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and supervision for custodial II employees.
- Plan, assign, and assist in completion of tasks assigned to all custodians as required.
- Train appropriate subordinates in required custodial and maintenance operations, including the proper use and care of custodial equipment and supplies.
- Responsible for physical arrangements for all events (ie. conferences, meetings, athletics, activities, etc.) within their building of responsibility.
- Requisition, distribute, and maintain control of all custodial supplies and equipment.
- Ensure and maintain building security, and address deficiencies as needed with appropriate district personnel.
- Plan and inspect for proper safety conditions and correct any deficiencies noted through normal inspections and/or insurance carriers recommendations.
- Maintain the exterior grounds and athletic areas for aesthetics and safety by removing litter, removing snow from doorways, stairways and adjacent areas, and sweeping debris from entrances and adjacent areas. Adjacent areas shall include the walkway from the public sidewalk(s) to the door/building entrance.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs to buildings and equipment as listed below.
- Responsible for responding to emergency situations.
- Attend monthly HS Calendar meetings.
- Perform other custodial responsibilities as assigned.
Definition of Minor Maintenance
- Adjust and install door closers.
- Tighten hinges and screws on doors.
- Replacement of light switches - 110 volt or less (training required).
- Replacement of electrical outlets - 110 volts or less (training required).
- Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Grease all mechanical equipment as required.
- Replace drive belts on equipment as required.
- Clean heating/cooling coils as required.
- Change air filters for air handling equipment as required.
- Replace washers and seats on all sinks (not including drinking fountains).
- Unclog sink traps and toilets.
- Spot painting as required.
- Shovel snow and salt pavement areas including the general sidewalks.
- Police exterior grounds and sweep debris from the general sidewalks.
- Repair lockers and replace locks.
- Patch holes in walls.
- Repair pipe insulation as required. (16 hour training required for ACBM).
- Re-glue and repair tables and equipment as required (this does not include rebuilding tables or equipment).
- Hang or assist in hanging items on walls.
- Install moldings and base tile.
- Building repair inspections.
- Repair floor, ceiling, and ceramic tiles including re-grouting (this does not include replacing tiles in an entire floor, ceiling or wall).
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of the heating plant, the boilers and related equipment according to the employees abilities and according to regulations.
Aide Assistance:
A custodial or summer aide may be provided to assist a custodial employee. Work may be assigned to the custodial or summer aide by the Director of Buildings and Grounds, who will inform the custodial employee of assignment. At all other times, the custodial employee shall be responsible for assigning work to the aide(s). In either case, the custodial employee shall be responsible for monitoring the work and ensuring that the work is performed by the aide(s). If concerns arise regarding the performance of an aide, the custodial employee shall immediately advise the Director of Buildings and Grounds of the problem.
