Description

The Custodian shall report to the Custodial Supervisor. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sweeps, mops, burnishes, and strips floors in rooms and halls with necessary automated equipment.
  • Dusts and/or polishes furniture, blinds, and equipment; empties trash receptacles.
  • Cleans all glass windows, light fixtures, and water fountains.
  • Cleans restrooms and fills dispensers.
  • Vacuums, spot cleans, and/or shampoos rugs, carpets, and upholstery using commercial-type vacuum cleaners and shampooing equipment.
  • Reports malfunction of bathroom fixtures, light fixtures, and/or damage to room and hall furnishings to the supervisor.
  • Stock the area with appropriate supplies.
  • Locks and unlocks doors as directed.
  • Reports necessary details and information for work orders for repair/maintenance.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, or fixtures as required, including using a ladder as needed.
  • Set up classrooms and meeting rooms for various meetings/activities.
  • Checks and updates fire extinguishers.
  • Cleans and clears leaves, dust, and debris from designated areas such as sidewalks, entryways, and roofs as required. Remove exterior trash from receptacles in those areas.
  • May be required to operate a forklift in the performance of duties.
  • May deliver mail.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid New Mexico or Texas driver's license.

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
  • Knowledge of safety processes, procedures, and equipment needed to complete assigned tasks safely.
  • Skill in using cleaning equipment and products.
  • Skill in following verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and write at a level appropriate for the duties of the position and to follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety.
  • Ability to operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.
  • Ability to perform work involving regular physical activity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Positions may require the ability to safely move up to 50 pounds and drive a forklift.

Core - Corporate Fitness Membership Annual CORE (Center Of Recreational Excellence) Corporate Membership is for full-time employees and their eligible family members.

Wellness Program-NMJC offers a campus Wellness Program to promote individual wellness among members of the campus community through education and prevention. This program requires full-time employees to take ONE (1) hour each week from work to participate in physical activity. To sign up for this program, you must complete the NMJC Wellness Program Participation form and turn it in to the Human Resources Office.

Staff Tuition Waiver - A full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children are entitled to a total of nine (9) credit hours of tuition-free credit courses per semester, including course fees. In addition, a full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children can take (1) community education course/offering at no cost per semester, provided (i) NMJC employed the full-time employee as of the date of registration for such class or classes and (ii) the minimum number of paid enrollees has been attained to offer the class.
