Custodial Warehouse Technician

Reports To: Custodial Support Specialist

Salary: Grade L

Summary

Under general supervision, performs warehouse, custodial support, and general maintenance

duties as needed in support of Auxiliary Services operations. The employee is responsible for

maintaining the day-to-day operations of the custodial services warehouse, receiving and

processing deliveries, organizing and distributing supplies, maintaining inventory records, and

assisting with custodial equipment repair and maintenance. Duties also include assisting

maintenance personnel in various trades, operating warehouse and landscaping equipment, and delivering supplies and materials to schools and administrative sites. Work requires operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, hand and power tools, landscaping equipment, box trucks, cargo vans, and other district vehicles while following all safety procedures and regulations.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Receive, unload, inspect, and process deliveries of custodial supplies, furniture,

equipment, materials, and other large shipments.

  1. Break down, sort, organize, and repack shipments for distribution to schools and

departments.

  1. Pull custodial supply orders and prepare materials for delivery.

  2. Deliver supplies, materials, and equipment to schools and administrative sites using

district vehicles.

  1. Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and safety of the warehouse and storage areas.

  2. Maintain computerized and written inventory records and produce reports as needed.

  3. Process, sort, and file purchasing records, forms, delivery documents, and

inventory-related communications.

  1. Collect, organize, launder, restock, and distribute custodial supplies and materials as

needed.

  1. Process and assist with the district's light bulb disposal and recycling program.

  2. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, box trucks, cargo vans, and other material-handling

equipment safely and effectively.

11.Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and landscaping equipment, including weedeaters, chainsaws, and pole saws.

  1. Perform simple repairs and maintenance on custodial equipment, including vacuums,

floor machines, shop vacs, and floor scrubbers, using hand tools, operator manuals, and

instructional materials.

  1. Coordinate with vendors for custodial equipment repairs when necessary.

  2. Assist qualified maintenance personnel in various trades as needed.

  3. Under supervision, perform general service and maintenance on seasonal equipment.

  4. Work safely from ladders, scaffolding, and in confined or elevated spaces as required.

  5. Perform custodial inspections and facility support duties under supervision.

  6. Perform basic mathematical calculations related to inventory, deliveries, and warehouse

operations.

  1. Follow oral and written instructions accurately and effectively.

  2. Maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license and safely operate district vehicles.

  3. Follow all district safety rules, regulations, and procedures.

  4. Obtain and maintain forklift certification as required.

  5. Position may be required to perform general tasks and duties expected of Maintenance I

staff.

  1. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Director, or Assistant

Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scaffolding, ladders, hand tools, power

tools, landscaping equipment, and district vehicles.

  1. Ability to perform heavy physical labor and safely move materials, supplies, and

equipment.

  1. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  2. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, vendors, and school personnel.

  3. Ability to read work orders, logs, diagrams, reports, and instructional materials.

  4. Ability to maintain accurate inventory, purchasing, and delivery records.

  5. Ability to apply practical problem-solving skills in a variety of work situations.

  6. Ability to inspect materials and equipment for accuracy, condition, and safety.

  7. Ability to coordinate hand and eye movements effectively while operating tools and

machinery.

  1. Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing work demands.

  2. Knowledge of safety practices, procedures, and regulations related to warehouse,

custodial, and maintenance operations.

  1. Ability to distinguish between colors and shades of color accurately.

  2. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in Standard English and basic mechanical

terminology.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to perform heavy physical work for extended periods of time.

  2. Ability to occasionally exert over 150 pounds of force with assistance and/or proper

equipment.

  1. Ability to frequently lift and move 50-100 pounds and constantly lift and move 20-50

pounds.

  1. Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, stoop, climb ladders, and maneuver in confined or

elevated spaces.

  1. Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, custodial equipment, forklifts, pallet jacks, and

district vehicles.

  1. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Requirements

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.

  2. Valid North Carolina Driver's License required.

  3. One (1) year of related warehouse, custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience

preferred.

  1. Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and administrative procedures.
