Position: Health Science Education Teacher
(Grades 9 â 12)

Length of Employment: 200 Days
Job Description Overview:
The Health Science Education teacher is assigned to deliver a comprehensive instructional program of study in the Health Science Education pathways to students in grades 9 - 12 while working with other core academic teachers to plan project- based learning opportunities and instruction with real world connections related to the Health Science Education fields of study.
Qualifications:
Holds a valid West Virginia RN License.
Holds or qualifies for a Career Technical Education Permit/Certificate (endorsed for Health Assistant) which requires:
a. Bachelors OR Associate Degree in an area related to the specialization, AND
b. Completion of two (2) years (4,000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in a medical/health care setting with experience in selected health care professions in which a valid certificate or license is held, with the most recent being within the past 3 years and beyond the training period.
Must complete 18 hours of required coursework for the CTE Permit through Marshall University's CTE Teaching Certification program.
Ability to oversee student field/medical clinical experiences within the Health Science field.
Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Possess strong time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with students, parents, co-workers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
Proficiency with technology based programs, including Microsoft Office and other online tools.
Responsibilities:
Implement, evaluate and improve the program of study developed by the state and county in the Health Science Education specialization field.
Comply with federal, state and local laws, policies and procedures for career technical education.
Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning, providing a safe learning environment to students.
Utilize instructional management systems models that increase student academic achievement.
Monitor student progress toward mastery of the instructional goals and objectives.
Communicate effectively within the educational and medical community, as well as parents, on a regular basis.
Meet and maintain professional responsibilities and work habits associated with the position.
Maintain school-wide supervision of students during in school instruction, as well as out-of-classroom activities in accordance with state, county and school policies.
Participate in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Work with field and medical work sites to establish opportunities for students' required classroom extensions.
Assist in placement and co-operative job training for students.
Maintain professional relationships with medical work sites.
Maintain equipment, making sure it is safe and in operational order.
Sponsor the Career Technical Student Organization appropriate to the Health Science Education field.
Promote and/or assist in promoting their program by dissemination of information and recruitment activities.
Complete and submit all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education, Career Technical Education, and/or county Board of Education.
Report the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff.
Anyone accepting this position is mandated to report suspected abuse and neglect.
Identify and refer for screening and evaluation any child who has learning deficiencies, as well as working with staff in providing remedial instruction opportunities.
Advise the principal of the presence of any situation that may require immediate intervention so as not to hinder the instructional program.
Complete duty assignments as designated by the school administration.
Communicate to parents/guardians the progress and/or deficiencies of students.
Accept responsibility for students assigned.
Attend all faculty senate and other required meetings.
Fulfill annual continuing education requirements and attend other required training programs, maintaining and upgrading professional skills.
Take student attendance as legally required and in accordance with county policy.
Accept reasonable assignments necessary for a successful school program.
Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned by Principal/Assistant Principal.
