Position: CT Technologist – Durham VAMC

Schedule: Day, Night, and Weekend Shifts (rotating as needed)
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (as applicable)

Position Summary

The Durham VA Medical Center is seeking a qualified and dedicated Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist to provide high-quality diagnostic imaging services for our Veteran population. The CT Technologist performs routine and advanced CT procedures while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and diagnostic accuracy. This role requires flexibility to support day, night, weekend, and holiday coverage as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform CT examinations according to established protocols, physician orders, and VA standards
  • Verify patient identity, review clinical history, and ensure exam appropriateness
  • Operate CT scanners and related imaging equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images
  • Administer contrast media as prescribed, observing proper safety and monitoring procedures
  • Maintain strict adherence to radiation safety principles (ALARA) and infection control policies
  • Monitor patients during procedures and respond to changes in condition
  • Accurately document procedures and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other technologists to ensure timely diagnostic services
  • Participate in quality assurance, equipment troubleshooting, and performance improvement activities
  • Comply with VA policies, Joint Commission standards, and federal regulations
  • Provide coverage for day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts as required

Required Qualifications

  • ARRT Certification in Computed Tomography (CT)required
  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Knowledge of CT anatomy, protocols, and radiation dose optimization
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to patient-centered care

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience performing CT scans in an acute-care or hospital setting
  • Experience working within a federal healthcare system or with Veteran populations
  • Familiarity with VA electronic health record systems (CPRS/VistA preferred)

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, move, and assist patients with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Work in a healthcare environment with exposure to ionizing radiation and medical equipment
