HJT1 is a 4K-8th Grade district located in Washington and Dodge Counties; 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee, 55 miles south of Oshkosh, and 60 miles northeast of Madison. The city of Hartford is in the rolling hills of the scenic Kettle Moraine with Pike Lake State Park, Holy Hill Basilica & National Shrine and Erin Hills Golf Course minutes from the city limits. We are a community of over 16,000 with strong education, and many attractions such as the Schauer Arts Center and Recreation Center, and a variety of retail stores and restaurants. Hartford is an active community with many organizations and groups uplifting the home community feel. The HJT1 District is made up of two elementary buildings and one middle school building.

HJT1 is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher to join our team at Central Middle School. The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold or be eligible to obtain Wisconsin Teaching License (1801) for grades 6-8
  • Possess strong instructional knowledge and the ability to adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs
  • Have experience providing instruction to middle school students
  • Understand the IEP process, including writing and implementation
  • Collaborate with content area and grade level teachers to develop, refine, and deliver high quality instruction for our students
  • Create engaging, challenging, and age-appropriate lessons aligned to state standards and encourages all students to achieve high levels of learning
  • Be trained (or willing to be trained) in non-violent crisis intervention
  • Understand and implement evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices for students with disabilities
  • Serve as a case manager for students with disabilities, including maintaining compliant documentation and timelines
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities related to a variety of topics impacting the key work of educators
  • Have strong communication and build positive relationships with students, team members, and parents
  • Be committed to continuous improvement and best practices to create a positive and safe learning environment which supports students overall well-being and academic success
  • Thrive in collaborative environments and contribute positively to school culture
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment that promotes belonging, teamwork, and respect
  • Possess a clear vision, energy, and enthusiasm for the program and students
  • Remain detail oriented and efficient
  • Guide and supervise groups of students, while maintaining a structured, supportive, and positive learning environment
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times
