Job Summary

Assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care to a specific patient population. Provides direct and indirect patient care duties under the guidance and direction of the Licensed Nurse.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Work Experience

  • 1 or more years experience in Medical Terminology (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire (Required)
  • Emergency Center Employees: Crisis Response Training required within 6 months of hire (Required)

Essential Functions

NURSING ASSISTANT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide assistance to the nurses with direct-patient care.
  • Communicates with and keeps manager informed of unit activities, needs and problems related to patient care.
  • Maintains established departmental, unit and hospital guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Follows established routines and utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
  • Implements and maintains factors related to safety and effectiveness of patient outcomes.
  • Administers necessary actions to comply with daily patient hygiene standards.

DOCUMENTATION

  • Documents and submits required information and data in a timely fashion.
  • Clearly and accurately documents designated processes, policies, products, service offerings, etc.
  • Ensures that documentation is tailored to expected readers / users.
  • Uses correct terminology.
  • Conforms to required style and format.

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT USE

  • Demonstrates technical skill in using equipment appropriate for role.
  • Understands equipment operation.
  • Maintains equipment in working order.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems.
  • Uses technology to increase productivity.
  • Adapts to new technology.

  • Demonstrates competency at all levels in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs.
  • For non-clinical areas, has attended training and demonstrates usage of age-specific customer service skills.
  • Wears protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
