Description

The Crew Supervisor in Public Utilities is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $26.15 - $28.76 per hour (equivalent to $54,392 - $59,820 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidates qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. The ideal candidate for this role will perform difficult technical and skilled trades work while supervising the work of a crew engaged in various construction, maintenance, and repair projects for the Department of Public Utilities (water & sewer).

As a Crew Supervisor, youll:

  • Lead a three-person or two-person crew in the outdoor environment with the use of general, specialized, and construction equipment in maintaining water and sewer assets and services;
  • Supervise employees and participate in predictive/preventive maintenance and the repair of water and sewer assets;
  • Lead employees and be responsible for moving from concept to detailed and efficient resolution of issues;
  • Organize and execute construction of water and sewer pipe/appurtenances from blueprints to final product;
  • Engage in various activities of the utility customer service agenda;
  • Supervise and participate in off-hours first response (standby) team assignments;
  • Perform manual and computerized administrative functions to plan or document work performance records, materials requisitions, costing summaries, and employee functions;
  • Perform as a daily mentor, trainer, and instructor for growth of subordinate employees in areas of teamwork and performance;
  • Operate a City vehicle in the performance of job duties;
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and considerable (3-5 years) experience in maintenance, construction, or utility work including some supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
  • Valid drivers license required. Commercial Drivers License required within six (6) months of hire date.
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Certification required within twelve (12) months of hire date.
  • Availability to be on call for off-hours emergency response and participate in a rotating, non-working hours stand-by program.
