Scope of Duties:
The Department of Creative Writing seeks MFA students (with at least 18 completed credit hours in the program) Graduate Assistant Instructor program. This work includes teaching undergraduate courses in the Department of Creative Writing as an instructor of record. The .5 position may include teaching up to two courses per semester of hire. The .25 position may include teaching one course per semester of hire.
Scope of Job:
The Department of Creative Writing Program seeks candidates for our Graduate Assistant Instructor program. Candidates must be accepted in the MFA in Creative Writing Program, have completed 18 credit hours in the program, and be in good standing. They must demonstrate a commitment to working in collaboration with their faculty supervisor(s)/teaching-mentors and other graduate assistants. Graduate Assistant Instructors will also complete all required employment training and take an approved pedagogy course listed on our MFA degree plan (or its equivalent TBD with the department chair). In the application, please mention previous teaching, creative writing workshop, and/or related literature seminar experiences. Please also mention the specific creative writing, literature, and/or pedagogical coursework you have completed or are enrolled in that is relevant to the following course(s) you would like to teach: 1) ENGL 2316 Poetry Appreciation (core curriculum course) and/or 2) ENGL 3351, an introductory Creative Writing course in prose and poetry. Please also mention any related pedagogical experience, training, and/or documented creative/scholarly activities that are valued in teaching one or both courses such as publications related to the field, presentations/performances, and/or creative works-in-progress.

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be in good academic standing. Hold a bachelor's degree or higher appropriate to the area of service. Have successfully completed eighteen (18) hours of graduate course work in the assigned teaching discipline. Candidates must be accepted into the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program. Be registered full-time for the respective semester (nine semester credit hours during the fall semester, nine semester credit hours during the spring semester, six semester credit hours during the summer session or be performing supervised research with a UTRGV faculty member) or be registered in the required number of semester credit hours to fulfill the only remaining requirements on the degree plan.
