Summary
Under the general supervision of the Presiding Judge and Court Administrator, the Court Support Specialist provides quality customer service while performing general duties in support of the Municipal Court operations. Interacts with internal and external customers concerning all aspects of all municipal court citations, including violations listed under the Penal Code, Traffic Law, City Ordinances and State Statutes. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude, using comprehensive judgment within the scope of the law.
Essential Functions
Assists the general public in person and by phone, including retrieval of information and files, and providing available options and requirements regarding court case processes, warrant information and other compliance options;
Schedules court dates for:
Jury Trials;
Non-Jury Trials;
Juvenile Hearings;
Civil Cases;
Alcohol Dockets;
Plea Negotiation Conferences;
Property Hearings;
Show Cause Hearings;
Structural Standards Hearings;
Cruelly Treated Animal Cases;
Dangerous Animal Appeals
Provide driver safety course and deferred disposition options as it applies to court cases;
Accurately process payments of fines and/or fees, maintain receipts, and balance cash drawer;
Inputs citation data into the court software to update records;
Compiles, types, records and files a wide variety of court records, transcripts, reports and materials, including citations, summons, warrants, letters and complaints;
Quickly and accurately analyzes inquiries in order to resolve citations in accordance with the letter of the law;
Learns, correctly interprets, and applies the laws, codes, policies and procedures related to the processing of court documents;
Processes paperwork from the jail including bonds, payments in full, credit for jail time served requests;
Ability to multitask by utilizing a personal computer running multiple software applications while assisting customers via phone, email, or in person;
Operates a computer terminal and printer to type, enter, modify and retrieve a wide variety of court documents, reports, records, letters and other material;
Sorts, files, copies and distributes mail, correspondence, court documents and reports to appropriate personnel;
Assists with the courtroom docket on a daily basis, verifying scheduling, researching cases, preparing paperwork and documenting outcomes on cases called before the judge;
Requires regular attendance and punctuality along with being prepared to commence work at the beginning of the work day;
Maintains the absolute confidentiality of all records and information;
Supports the relationship between the City of Lubbock and the general public by communicating courteously and effectively in person, in writing, by telephone and via e-mail;
Keeps the Presiding Judge and Municipal Court Administrator apprised of all pertinent issues;
Other duties as assigned.
