County Administrator
County of Hampton, SC
Hampton County, South Carolina is seeking a motivated and dedicated professional for the position of County Administrator. The administrator is responsible for the overall management of County government, including the direction and supervision of department heads and administration of county functions in accordance with the policies formulated by the County Council. The County is looking for a leader with strong critical thinking skills who will be a collaborative leader and a consensus builder.
Candidates should have at a minimum a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, or a closely related field, preferably with at least five years of progressively responsible experience in city/county management or equivalent experience involving private or public institutions. A Master's Degree in one of these fields is highly preferred, but not required. The starting salary for the position is competitive and will be based on qualifications and experience.

In addition to the listed duties above, the next administrator will need to have demonstrated experience in governmental finance and budgeting, including budget development, capital planning, procurement, grant administration, audit readiness and project management. Candidates should also have a working knowledge and understanding of rural government operations and the particular challenges they face including infrastructure development, public safety service delivery and intergovernmental relations.
The next administrator will be required to establish residency within the County during the first six months of their tenure. In many ways, the administrator is the face of the community and is expected to become a vital part of the community by attending community events, participating in civic clubs and events and other community activities.
